Stop all your Apple devices ringing at the same time
13 January 2020 · tutorials, office software
A call comes in, and the whole office starts ringing: iPhone, Mac, iPad, sometimes even the Watch. Handy when your phone is in another room, far less so in a meeting or an open-plan office. The good news: it only takes two minutes to choose which devices are allowed to ring.
Why all your devices ring
When your devices use the same Apple Account and the same Wi-Fi network, the Continuity feature passes calls from your iPhone to your other devices. You can turn it off completely from the iPhone, or only on certain devices.
On the iPhone: turn it off for all devices
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Phone. On older versions of iOS, Phone is directly in Settings.
- Tap Calls on Other Devices.
- Turn off Allow Calls on Other Devices, or turn off only the devices that should no longer ring.
On the Mac: turn it off for the computer only
- Open the FaceTime app.
- In the menu bar, choose FaceTime, then Settings.
- In the General tab, untick Calls from iPhone.
On the iPad: turn it off for the tablet only
- Open Settings, then Apps and FaceTime.
- Turn off Calls from iPhone.
Our tip
Rather than turning everything off, keep ringing on the device you work on most and use Focus modes (Settings, then Focus) to silence calls during your appointments. They sync across all your Apple devices.
